Roberto Ocampo was elected to serve as trustee of the Alisal Union School District in November 2018, and was sworn in on Dec. 12, 2018. He represents Area 2. He was elected for a second term in 2022. 

Born and raised in Salinas, Ocampo attended Jesse G. Sanchez Elementary when it was still called Sanborn. After graduating from El Sausal and Alisal High School, he attended UC Santa Cruz and earned a B.A. in sociology and San Jose State University, where he also earned a masters in counseling and a counseling credential. After a 40-year career as counselor at Alisal High, he retired in May 2018.

In addition to his work as counselor, Ocampo served on the Salinas City Council for 13 years starting in 1991.

Mr. Ocampo has a love for education and enjoys working with students and parents, a big motivation behind his desire to serve the community. He’s also committed to Alisal Union School District approach to educate the whole child and is looking forward to becoming more involved in those efforts.

As a local member of the National Fraternity of the Secular Franciscan Order, Mr. Ocampo would like to incorporate the order’s vision of compassion to his work on the Board of Education.

Clerk, Board of Trustees

Mr. José Antonio Jiménez was elected to the Alisal Union School District in Nov. 2018, and he represents Area 5. He was elected for a second term in 2022. 

Born and raised in Lima, Peru, Mr. Jiménez immigrated to the city of Salinas in 1987 with his parents and two younger siblings. Although he was 16 at the time, he had already finished his high school studies at Colegio Claretiano, a Catholic school in Peru. He studied two more years of high school and graduated from Salinas High School in 1989, later attending Hartnell College.  He went on to pursue a career in radio broadcasting in the local community bilingual radio station KHDC, later working locally for Wolfhouse Radio Group, Inc. In his career as a radio broadcaster, Mr. Jiménez became involved as a volunteer in local issues concerning the migrant community, particularly in education.

Mr. Jiménez has four children. Three of his children attend Dr. Oscar F. Loya Elementary school.  His oldest daughter is a former AUSD student and is a senior at Alisal High School. Mr. Jiménez is an active and dedicated parent in his children's education and schools.  For over 11 years he has held many leadership roles as a parent representative in both Alisal Union School District and in the Salinas Union High School District. He has served as parent representative, vice-president and president of the school site council for Dr. Oscar F. Loya Elementary School, president of the parent-teacher organization and president of DELAC and DAC.  He was also elected as parent representative in the school site council for La Paz Middle School and Alisal High School. As a public school parent and the son of an Alisal Union School Union retired teacher, Mr. Jiménez strongly believes in the importance of quality education in our community for all of our children. He is committed to quality education, safety and the well-being of children in our district. 

Currently, he works as a hotel engineer for the Portola Hotel and Spa in the city of Monterey, and dedicates his spare time to his children's education and extracurricular activities.

Mrs. Guadalupe Gilpas Barrera was first appointed to serve as trustee of the Alisal Union School District in 2005, a post that she held until 2011. She was elected again in 2015 to represent Trustee Area 4. In 2020 she was elected for a second consecutive term which will expire in 2024. 

The child of a teacher and a migrant farmworker, Mrs. Gilpas Barrera was born and raised in Salinas and attended Sherwood School, Fremont Elementary, El Sausal Middle School, Alisal High, and Hartnell College.

Mrs. Gilpas Barrera has worked in education all of her life, first as instructional assistant at Frank Paul Elementary and later as community liaison for Harden Middle School at the Salinas Union High School District, where she's worked for 25 years. She volunteers her time to a variety of efforts, and in the past she has served on the boards of Second Chance Youth Program and Meals on Wheels.

Mrs. Gilpas Barrera believes having the right people in leadership positions is crucial to the academic development of students; for that reason it's important to have top administrators who are invested in the district and in the success of its students.

Ms. Leticia García was appointed to the Board of Trustees in June 2021. She represents Area 3 of the District.

Ms. García’s  first priority as public official is to increase student achievement and college and career readiness.

Ms. García was born in Salinas and has lived in the Alisal community for 15 years.  She believes in the community and wants to see the students continue to flourish and reach their dreams by creating a solid foundation at the elementary level. She has a bachelor's degree in liberal studies (BCLAD) and a master's degree in education.

Ms. García has dedicated her adult life to education, and has worked as a bilingual resource teacher, classroom teacher, assistant principal and principal. She was selected as Principal of the Year in 2019 by the Association of California School Administrators and has served on numerous committees, including President of ACSA Salinas Valley Charter,  Blue Zones, school site councils, restorative justice, and more.

Ms. García was elected for a full, four-year term in November 2022.
