Transitional Kinder Resources

Transitional kindergarten is one of the first steps California’s youngest school children take in their academic careers. As a parent, you are a key player in setting them on the right path to lifelong learning and success. On TKCalifornia, you will find valuable, easy to use support and tips that will get your child off to a strong start!

Transitional kindergarten gives our state’s young learners the gift of time to help them develop the social, emotional and academic skills they need to succeed in kindergarten.

Alisal Union School District’s Transitional Kindergarten Program is the first year of a two-year kindergarten program designed to prepare young kindergartners for school success. This program is free.

This program provides students with a strong educational foundation by giving children a stimulating environment that fosters physical, social-emotional and intellectual development.  The Transitional Kindergarten curriculum, daily schedules, daily activities, report cards, and creative projects provide integrated learning opportunities and introduce children to new vocabulary, concepts, and skills.

Transitional Kindergarten is designed to help children as they:

  • Increase vocabulary enrichment and memory skills

  • Build confidence and self-esteem

  • Develop small motor skills needed for writing

  • Foster large muscle skills needed for balance

  • Enhance skills such as sitting, listening, and following directions

  • Facilitate social interaction and encourages problem solving

Children experience school success from the beginning.  TK has nothing to do with being smart; it’s about being ready.  Students leave the TK Program prepared to enter academic kindergarten successfully.
